If you want to keep costs low and still have the event of your dreams, consider a weekday wedding. Thursday weddings have been trending for a couple of years, now.

Less Guests

Only your close friends and family are going to take several days off from work to attend your weekday wedding. So, you can invite all of your mom’s third cousins that you’ve never met, but keep it small. (Holiday weddings can have this same effect on your invite vs. RSVP list.)

…and if those third cousins send gifts in lieu of their absence, you score! (Be very sure that you thank them properly and promptly. They not only went to the trouble to get you a gift, they also had to stand in line, probably, to ship it!)

More Vendor Options

Your wedding will be more affordable since you won’t compete with other couples for the vendors that are the best fit for your style and budget. You may even get a few price breaks here or there.

Anniversary Bonus

Your first anniversary or two will fall on the weekend instead of a Sunday or Monday.

Emily posed the question on Southern Weddings:

“What of the holiday weekend wedding?  Is it rude to schedule your wedding for, say, the July 4th weekend?”

When we have worked with clients who still have yet to select a wedding weekend, we bring this up. Emily is right that some guests will feel like it’s an imposition and others say it’s the couple’s choice.

There is a third scenario for holiday weekend weddings:

You want/need to invite a large number of guests. Maybe you have large extended families. Maybe your mom and dad are footing the bill and padding the guest list…and you are afraid it could get out of control. Meanwhile, what you really want is a smaller event where you can actually greet your guests and hang out with the people closest to you.

Enter the holiday weekend (or a weekday) wedding. Weddings on holidays, holiday weekends, and weekdays give you the flexibility to invite everyone, yet keep your guest list smaller. Some people simply won’t be able to attend due to prior commitments or increased costs of holiday travel.

Holiday and holiday weekend costs may be higher, however, for both your ceremony and reception. Check with your wedding planner for ideas and advice.
