#HRCareerConnects

I had a great time with #HRCareerConnects yesterday and learned a lot, too. Images will be ready early next week, but in the mean time, I wanted to share some information that I got a lot of questions about yesterday: portraits.

Whether business headshots, family portraits, or an engagement session, we offer a uniquely customized service so that everything is As You Wish!

  • Most sessions are 1 hour: $275.
  • We bring the studio to you for unique images in your business setting or in your neighborhood.
  • Portrait sessions come with a digital print package of 5 personal images or 1 business image.
  • Buddy up and save: grab a friend for the same location and adjoining time slot; you’ll both save 30%.

We believe in keeping it simple and easy.

Fall Fundraising

We routinely donate to a few fundraisers and have lovely relationships with some local organizations and event planners. Having recently learned the results from two fall events, we’d like to share their good works.

SAHELI for Asian Families

The Silk Road: An Asian Epicurean Journey is a wine and food event that raised $13,200 for those in need. SAHELI represents six words that define their services: Support, Advocate, Heal, Empower, Listen, and Inform.

Bollywood 2011

“Bollywood Nights keeps getting better and better! This year we had a band, multiple dance performances, henna, a big silent auction, delicious food, and a Bollywood dance lesson for all to round out the night. We raised $4,500, topping our past two years!”

Bollywood by Room to Read Austin

We just love the Bollywood event hosted by the Austin chapter of Room to Read. This annual event raises money to build a library in India and gives girls, in particular, access to education and learning.

This fun event features Indian food, music, art, and dance. And, in just a few short hours, the event raised almost enough money for an entire library!

Kudos, Room to Read Austin! Good work.

Zeta Tau Alpha Crown Cookoff

The lovely ladies of the University of Texas chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha hold Crown Cookoff, an annual salsa competition. It’s a fun way to be on campus on a pretty (albeit windy) day and raise money for breast cancer research and support!

Lindsay Taylor served as the Chair of the Celebration of Life Luncheon while her mom battled through surgery, chemo, and radiation for breast cancer.

Kami Armstrong performed her own composition, The Cure, which she wrote for her teacher, Ms. Lopez, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The fashion show features survivors as models.

And this lovely lady has been modeling for the show since 2002!

Thank you, Marilyn, for all your years of participation in the fashion show portion of the event!

Lindsay’s entire family turned out for the Celebration!

Here is most of the committee who planned this lovely event. You’ll find these wonderful women working in higher education, real estate, and for companies large and small. You’ll more likely recognize their faces from other volunteer endeavors around Austin!

As a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, I am thrilled to be a sponsor of and volunteer for this lovely event. My efforts have been richly rewarded through this amazing volunteer experience.

Austin Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae Officer Installation

I am a proud member and new officer for the Austin Area Alumnae chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. Our outgoing president, Ginger, honored us all with a beautiful ceremony/ritual. I had not attended a ZTA ritual since 1998 at our Centennial Convention, so this was a special treat for me.

Thank you, Ginger and all the outgoing officers. You have left us a great legacy.

Larry Salter & Harold Morrison Memorial Golf Tournament

Every year[1], we head to Paris, Texas, for the Prairiland Academic Trust Foundation golf tournament held in memory of my dad and his good friend. It’s a nice tribute to two great men and raises a lot of scholarship money for kids from the little school district.

A serious storm that morning got things off to a late start, but the day turned out to be gorgeous!

A school teacher volunteered to do the team photos that commemorate the event for all the participants, so we grabbed a few candids.

In total, roughly 40 teams of four played golf in memory of Daddy and Harold.

[1] It’s been pure luck that we can attend. They rarely know the date until just a few weeks out from the event. We hope to the event them make enough money that they can plan the tournament for the week after school let’s out. That’s a predictable date each year.

NBX 10 Year Reunion

NBX is a north Austin networking organization. This year, our group celebrated its 10th anniversary. In true Austin fashion, we did so with a big party designed to include anyone who had ever been a member of the group. Instead of the usual ~50 attendees, we had a massive group of ~150. That made for a very large game of Simon Says, let by Matt Stephans of Competition Unlimited. Other entertainment included a short dog performance, travel education, Feng Shui of business cards, massages, readings, and other things mystical, and, of course, updated avatar photos and a few candid shots from As You Wish! There were also several prizes and other goodies. It was a great event.

NBXers, you can go see the candid images and the party-favor headshots in an online gallery.

Congratulations NBX! Here’s to another decade of friends-first, networking-second!

Ribbon Cutting for Tourism Currents

Our friends Sheila Scarborough & Becky McCray (of Alva, Oklahoma) took advantage of the buzz around SxSWi (the South by Southwest Interactive festival) to host a ribbon cutting for their online business/blog Tourism Currents. Because their business is online, their ribbon cutting was at the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce.

Indian Nights benefiting Room to Read

Room to Read Austin hosted a wonderful event, Indian Nights, at the Clay Pit. The evening was full of color, traditional music, wonderful food, and dance exhibitions from two troupes.

From the event organizers:

Great news to share! As a result of your support for our Indian Nights event last week, Room to Read Austin was able to raise enough money to build and establish a complete library in India that will be filled with books, games, and educational toys. The library will also receive three years of support, including three years of training for the librarians. …

What’s next for Room to Read Austin?
